I love how most of Ojisama to Neko so far needs no translation.
Ojisama to Neko
Chapter 3: The Cat’s Name“I’m so lucky I found you” (お前に出会えたことが辛福) uses the character 福 for good luck/blessings, which is pronounced “fuku.” So Fukumaru’s name comes specifically from the word “lucky” in Ojisama’s statement “I’m so lucky I found you.”

Ojisama to Neko: “Nuzzle Buddies”
Notes: “Nuzzle” may not be the most accurate translation for “surisuri,” but I thought it had a warm and fuzzy ring to it that fit the imagery better than “rub-rub” or something similar. Also, Fukumaru tends to speak in third-person (lit. “Fukumaru loves being petted,” “Fukumaru thinks so too,” etc.) I considered leaving this in, but I thought it might be a little confusing, for readers who aren’t familiar with the cat’s name yet. There’s not much information about this series available in English, but I hope that changes soon.
I’ve been reading the Ojisama to Neko comics that @sakurai_umi_ has been posting on twitter, and they’re SO SWEET AND CUTE; SOMEONE HOLD ME. I really hope this takes off in Japan and gets popular enough to get an official translation. I’ll buy every volume.

Ojisama to Neko: “I’m right here.”
[Original comic can be found on Twitter HERE]I went ahead and put the translation on the original comic, just because it’s good practice for me as I work on my own comics and art. It forces me to study how professional artists do their lettering and how they structure their text to fit with the action. I feel like I’m learning something, at least. Someday I aspire to pack as much cuteness into a page as Sakurai-sensei does.
